Post by: PandaCollector on September 15, 2016, 10:52:44 PM
Take a look at the new gate at the Shenyang Mint...and other news about Panda coins.

Why do they have to mint that lovely bar only on 1000?  :crying: :crying:

It took some time for me to realize, after I started collecting MCC, that the Shenyang mint was also up there in terms of history and achievements in coin minting and not just the Shanghai mint (and Shenzhen Guobao).

I agree. I think this is some of the finest artwork in the entire Panda series.

All the Chinese mints are fascinating – each is a like a little walled city with streets, railroads and many thousands of people who work there each day. The Shenyang Mint has played a very important role in Chinese numismatics since it was founded 120 years ago. The new gate is a public indication of that.

You can thank me, then, for not bidding the price up on this. I will not be buying.

I see no new ground being broken here, either in terms of theme or design or art.  Śame pandas with same bamboo background we've seen largely sinçe 2009.

No high definitïon?  The gate art in the pic, to my eyes looks like offerings from Nanjing mint.

Just my opinion based on the pics, so in person I might change that opinion. I am certain you are seeing something my eyes haven't picked up yet?

PS - many of the most creative, artistic pieces in my collection are from Shenyang mint. I am just not impressed with the art or level of creativity of this particular offering.

Here are higher definition photos that I took at the press conference in Shenyang of the commemorative silver Panda.

It's interesting how differently Hippanda reacted to this art than I did. It really struck a chord with me and could be my favorite multiple Panda design so far. The gate is an accurate representation of the new public face of the Shenyang Mint. It was only completed and opened this summer. In terms of high definition, that was something that really impressed everyone who saw and handled it. Chacun à son goût,  YMMV.

I sincerely hopes it goes into production and is released to collectors soon.

That is a better quality image you attached than the one I was able to pull up from earlier link.

I am hoping it is like you attest more impressive in real life. Its difficult to get a sense of definition from a 2-D image.

I am still not impressed with the level of creativity of the design- the margin pattern looks rather bland and repetitive to me like paper currency.   Maybe that's the idea though. Just my opinion.

If it is really impressive in real life, that is another matter best left to that time to comment further.

If the Shenyang Mint is the oldest in China, as of now, it's place in history is globally kept low profile!

It's a matter of time before the People's Bank of China surpasses the Federal Reserve in assets.

King World News and many other articles say People's Bank of China or just China owns more gold than the Fed Reserve or US.    Do we own any gold?   We are rich in derivatives (weapons of financial destruction) so i think People's Bank has already surpassed......

This is how the antiqued silver bar looks in an NGC slab (as seen on eBay).

One of my very favorite panda designs.

That silver bar is awesome looking. IMO it would look better in a PCGS clear slab, as the NGC slab looks a bit awkward.

Is it too much to ask that the grading companies have more "fitting" core than the standard circular which is not all applicable to some.

The amount of submission, you would think they can have an in-house custom core shop.

Wow what an ugly slab.

I asked and was told that better fitting cores for rectangular items are on the way, or at least in development. I have no idea when they will be available.
