Team USA Says "Thank You"
« on: August 21, 2013, 01:27:59 PM »
Dear Friends,

On behalf of the 2013 US National Sepak Takraw team, which will soon be traveling to compete in tournaments within India and Thailand, we express my sincere gratitude to our friends and family who have helped to fund our trip overseas. Without your generous donations, we surely would have fallen short of our goal to send a US team to compete at these prestigious events. Thanks to you, we will proudly compete with the 11 other top sepak takraw teams in the world (all eastern nations) in two “ISTAF Super Series” tournaments in New Dehli, India on August 24th and Bangkok, Thailand on September 26th. These two tournaments will bookend the 2013 King’s Cup in Udon Thani, Thailand, widely considered the world championship of sepak takraw, where the US national team will also compete.

This year, we will show the world that sepak takraw is no longer an Asian sport, but a sport that is recognized and played across the globe, including right here in the United States. Thank you for helping us to achieve our goal of representing and promoting USA Sepak Takraw globally.

Sincerely,

Tony Ontam, Jeremy Mirken, and Anthony Cha

I will let you know if USA will have the honor of competing against Malaysia in this tournament. In 2011 in Palembang, Indonesia Team USA did not fare too well against Team Malaysia. I hope this year will be different.

MALAYSIA will come out to be the champion anyway.

USA played Malaysia after all! Sadly, we lost in 3 games.

I think the scores were 9-15, 10-15, and 5-15. What a fun match though!

Today we play Brunei Darusalaam.

Having fun and trying your best is the most important thing imo. Better luck next time.

We ended up playing Brunei twice over two days to end the tournament. The first day we lost in four sets. The set we won was a big come from behind victory, down 2-7 in a game to 15 pts. The second day we went to a game 5 but ultimately lost 12-15 in the final game. What a great match though! With a few tweaks we should be able to eek out a win or two depending on our draw in the upcoming tourneys. Thanks for the support and kind words. I will try to post some pics of the experience shortly.

Here are a couple of pics of Team USA, and some and clips from Team USA's matches with Iran and Brunei Darussalaam this summer at ISTAF SuperSeries Bangkok, Thailand. Iran is in red, Brunei in black/yellow, ad USA in white.
