StacksBowers Modern Chinese Coin Auction (Ended April 5th)
« on: April 05, 2017, 02:08:49 PM »
The auction ended last night and I watched about half of it before I got too tired. Since I'm at work, I cannot find/post a direct link to this auction, but it was mentioned in the most recent PricePedia if I remember correctly.

Was anyone else watching or bidding? Many gold pandas went for fairly strong prices. Curious as to what you all noticed . . .

SB auctions have historically brought lower prices for modern MCC than other venues. They had a strong showing last night, at least among the coins I was tracking and bidding on. I had lots of bids out and won nothing. I expected to win some things.

This was really good auction, market is hot for certain coins, supply is limited.  Out of 34 coins I was chasing I won 0 of them.

The biggest surprise for me was the 1992 proof set, 1/20 and 1/20 NGC MS69, 1/10, 1/4, 1 NGC MS68 went for $15,500, I was expecting to pick it up for $10K max.

Based on what we've been seeing with all the key date 1/2 oz pandas lately it sounds like the bidders may have been after that one coin in PF69.

1992 1/2 proof is the easiest coin to get in pf69, it is the 1/4 and 1oz that are impossible to fine in pf69.  That is why the price was a shocker to me.
