... i get the answer from daisy

>>>This damage is not man-made, but it was done in the mint process.  Almost 90% of the 5oz gold lunar coins since last year has this kind of ring problems, more or less.   Below is picture of 5oz rectangle gold dragon, the ring damage is quite large, but this is not man-made as well.     Since last year, the 5oz gold lunars are all not well-produced.  <<<

For the premium they charge for these one would think they would have better minting/handling process.
I have heard complaints about the smaller gold fan coin being like this also.

西湖龙井 No less!  It is best of the best.  When I was in Hangzhou in 2012, I was hoping to find some.  My guide told me not to bother, so little of them were produced, they are either gifts for the high officials or luxury export for very limited clients.  The price of the spring harvest were especially ridiculous, the chateau lafite rothschild of tea.

The coin in the photos is the coin you will receive packaged in the original NGC grading box, unopened.

I bought a few of these coins at auction, so they are not 100% gold, not for the price. NGC assess the coin as 92% tungsten and 8% .999 fine 24k gold.

It is a very skillful scam. The seller copied the picture from NGC website. The chance is good that the winner will not receive the coin in the picture, but a fake coin in a fake holder. The seller had already made claim that the coin only has 8% gold.

This confirms word on the street (silverstackers) that the 2016 30g gold and lower denomination fractionals are being sold as 5-coin sets to dealers. I have this feeling that the horse may have already bolted from the barn so to speak. 600,000 mintage. Individuals beginning to stockpile sheets of the stuff. It never appeared or was very transient at most dealer websites. Even PA has delisted the 1g coin from their website.

As these coins move further away from the mint, irretrievable/irrevocable premiums are being added to their bullion value. This will make it very difficult for the price to fall back to anything close to bullion value.

People say that there is something different about this 1g coin e.g. 1st year of issue, needed by the 5-coin set collectors as well as serial 1g collectors, and not talking about demand by novelty coin repackagers and modifiers. They make for affordable gold denominated gifts for various occasions. Note that some of the uses mentioned here will suck these coins almost permanently out of circulation and/or reduce the chances of getting high grade coins from them later on.

Very interesting!

There could be less speculation about mintage figures and greater price stability if the mints were more forthcoming with timely information such as is the case with the Canadian mint for example. I have noticed that Mint.ca starts placing %sold information beside their coins once they cross 75%. They also indicate when coins are on back order Etc.

I will not waste my hard earned dollars paying 2x melt for a coin that is newly minted in the hundreds of thousands. I suggest you all rethink why it may be a "good buy." I cannot find a reason.

Numismatics is very interesting indeed. What makes a coin light up while another fizzles? Does the initial hullabaloo continue or the enthusiasm dry up further down the road? Difficult to say. Just as it would have been impossible to predict years ago the circumstances that led to recent valuations of key members of the 1995 set. We just have to continue reading the tea leaves. I think that is where the excitement comes from!

Mirk ,I said the same exact thing to myself 20 times before i bought some:)
1) I have had folks I know in china check 2 different regions of the country trying to buy these little bears the only way to get them is buy the 5 coin set
2) more importantly a dealer who I have done a ton of business with in Shanghai told me this: When the 2016 gold panda,s where released the mint allocated dealers these 1G coins based upon past ordering pattern .He got over 4000 he sold them in his retail location for 500rmb to 650rmb  all gone in a few days  and when he went to re order none available ,understanding the Chinese  they love gold and never sell it unless they need the money to eat:)  they buy gold for protection against there own currency, also this little bear is the perfect New years gift ....Every kid in china gets a red envelope with a gift all relatives travel from house to house giving kids gifts and alot of those gifts are gold.
4) not 1 bullion dealer including all the majors has stock even Panda america???
5) I Never buy anything because someone else buys it or follow hype ,but at the very least you need to a acknowledge WG buying them:) to amass the collection he has ,you would tend to think he has pretty good insight and information and to sell 95 panda,s to buy these?it looks like taking profit and reinvesting to me??????
6) lastly I like gold and think it is super low and I am working under the theory of buy, hold and forget about it:)

Further to my comments above and in support of your sentiments I have to say that my decisions about what to buy and not to buy are weighted by a heavy dose of humility based on historical precedents. There was a time in the distant past you couldn't get people to purchase panda coins due to prevailing views on the viability of the program and politics. This led to the "great melt". Even without that melting most of the early release coins and medals would have still appreciated to multiples of their original value, as is the situation now. People who bought then and in multiples must be real happy now.

Yes, their mintage was relatively low in earlier years compared to current mintages. So rarity will not be immediately in front as a prime determinant of the viability of current mintages as investment vehicles. Or, am I right? It was only in recent years that the Chinese government opened up the MCC market to domestic involvement. So the current mintages will have to satisfy the needs of the large domestic market as well as oversea needs.

I am in no way at all asking anyone to buy the 1g or other denominations as investments. Absolutely not. I believe sentiments we have heard all around regarding these and other MCC is just what it is; forum members sharing with others their thoughts, plans and actions as part of the continuing fellowship.

I have already bought most of my 2016 annual Panda gold and silver coin needs with respect to my collection and those of selected beneficiaries. With some "discretionary" funds remaining I wondered if to buy more trays of the silver coins (with the ever present threats of white spot development) or look into buying sheets of the 1g and/or the 3g gold coins. What I have been hearing and reading suggests that my beneficiaries will light some extra candles for me in 20 or more years' time if I put away a few sheets of "something" for them, now and every year, while I can. The question remaining regards the most I should pay for such or similar coin configurations?

Oh by the way full disclosure I have zero for sale bought 2 sheets to tuck away and furnished a few for another member for cost  keep in mind and I'm not implying that this coin has any kind of investment potential my opinion it is the working man's panda first year of issue affordable to the middle class so who knows I like gold anyway  these are two totally different scenarios but if I told someone 18 months ago a 19951/2 ounce panda  was going to sell for 18 K you would've called me a lunatic so who knows

Instead of the normal 2 Oz size, you mean?

Yes, all silver coins in world heritage and Buddhist mountain series are 2 oz. These two series are the most popular among collectors inside China. Even with a high mintage of 60,000, the current fair value of silver coins is in the range of $350-$450. The grotto set is not in those series, but 2 oz. silver grotto, with mintage of 20,000, has a current valuation of $750-$850 and wg owns ton of this coin, based on the picture he posted in this thread.

Disclosure: I do own those coins.

$3200 melt, it is 5 kilos of silver.  Had chance to buy this set for $50K in 2009, instead I made play on 30x silver piefort set for roughly the same price.  Looking back should have bought these instead even though the pieforts paid off around 3.5x.

Try sending the seller an eBay message and be creative with how you spell out your contact email address inside of the eBay messaging email.  Such as changing the "." to "DOT" or something else.  Or separate your email address into multiple lines.

Very interesting.  One time, I spent two weeks in Xining (Qinghai Province), wandering around the city and the surrounding hills, buying whatever I could in a very impoverished area of northwestern China.  The majority of the people were Han.  Still, the area had a large Muslim population and Donguan Mosque, a very large Buddhist complex built into the steep mountainside with tunnels leading to little temples and the Tibetan Ta'er Monastery.  The multi-cultural and multi-religious diversity was interesting.

I remember bringing back a large Chinese stamp collection and some other "stuff".  I do not remember having the opportunity to see or purchase any gold.  A missed opportunity.

IDK but from the picture and description of the setup for minting I suspect they relied on a solid core to reduce the variables they had to contend with but I could be wrong.

Since 2015, China Gold Coin Inc. has sold MCC in its holder to public directly via its internet store.

Here is the link to the CGCI store for 2018 pandas.

http://www.chinagoldcoin.net/index.html

Attached pictures are another example without CGCI logo, but place the holder in a nice folder with name of People's Bank of China and CGCI at the back of the folder.

The CGCI subsidiary company called China National Grading Company (CNAG) was established in 2014. Some of its early holders look like this. The SHG on the gold Panda holder stands for Shanghai Gold Investments, another subsidiary of the People's Bank of China.

120 per day

Quote
Exclusive Special Issue for the 35th Anniversary of Chinese Panda Gold Coins in 1982. Special Embossing Technique - In order to achieve the ideal spherical shape, the engineers of the Chinese mint developed a special six-piece construction with hammer (top) and anvil (bottom) side by side are connected. The individual coins received a slightly raised, grooved surface, so that the spherical shape is maintained during and after embossing. Due to the high cost of production, only 120 copies could be produced per day. Each coin token was laser engraved with the various panda designs before it was polished and attached to the solid silver ball. Using a hydraulic press, each silver ball was machined from all sides several times to ensure that the design sits firmly on the blank. Each silver ball was inspected by hand to ensure a perfect result. The design of the silver ball contains various designs of Panda gold coins from the last 35 years - from 1982 to 2017. The collage of coin designs is set against a backdrop of bamboo. The design on the upper half of the silver ball contains the Chinese inscription "35th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ISSUE OF CHINESE PANDA GOLD COINS", the number 35, the years 1982 and 2017, and the picture of a panda. The motif is framed by a 3-leaf bamboo design. On the other half of the silver ball is the Temple of Heaven.
