Answers for Kondi and Bearcat. I got this address from the message sent out by Kondi.

No, I am not looking for e-mail addresses to play with.

Yes, I published a book titled CHINESE-AMERICAN TOKENS FROM THE PACIFIC COAST.

I am not fluent in reading Chinese. I can work with a dictionary if the message is only a few characters long.

I was wrong. I have a 10¢ Venus Cafe, a 15¢ CUA Cafe. The Venus Cafe 10¢ is plentiful in California.

E.T. Riley tokens: Arcadia 10¢ (no ETR); D.D.'s Cafe 5¢ (no ETR) and 10¢ (2 vars.); Gaiety 10¢ ETR; Jose Bar 10¢ (no ETR); 4th Marines 10¢ ETR (2 vars.); 大 華 20¢ (no ETR); 寰 海 20¢ (no ETR).

Was there a TONG K. WING store or company in Shanghai? The tokens were made here in San Francisco although I do not know which diesinker. Both denominations are plentiful here in California. I believe that very few went to Shanghai.

There are plentiful Venus 10c cafe tokens in California, because sailors and tourists brought them back from China. In fact, they are listed in Kappen's catalog of California tokens as being from San Francisco. However there are Shanghai tokens. Is there also a lot of Venus 20c cafe tokens in California?

Jerry, could you be so kind and if you will have a time post your Arcadia 10c (no ETR) and those 2 also: 大 華 20¢ (no ETR), 寰 海 20¢ (no ETR). I am not familiar with those.

D.D.'s Cafe 10c (2 vars), Does both varieties has E.T.R. on the other side?

I didn't study TONG K. WING tokens deeper but you are correct. There are large numbers of those tokens in US and in Shanghai there are very few of them. They are unknown in China. They are from early 1900s (issued in 1920 if I am not wrong). There are 2 denominations: 1 yuan ($1) and 5 jiao (50c).

Some collectors believe also that because of "N" letter in word: Tong and Wing are backward in $1 piece. It is doubtful that they were made in US.

Jerry, is there some book which proves that these were made in San Francisco?

Re: Tong K. Wing. I have always assumed that these tokens were made in San Francisco. That has been my supposition because of the general design. There is no book or article about them that I know of.

I still do not know how to post photos of tokens, so until I find someone who can show me I can't do more than send e-mails.

Venus Cafe: the 10¢ is common here. I'm certain that I haven't seen other denominations.

D.D.'s Cafe: The 5¢ has no ETR. Both varieties of 10¢ have ETR.

It will be a while before I can master the technique of sending coin photos. I apologize. There are a number of interesting tokens issued by Chinese shopkeepers living in America of which I have quite a number. Most of them were in California although there are a number of tokens from Arizona, Oregon and Washington.

To Kondi:
You looked at Jerry Adams website. He does a good job of letting people know about Chinese-American tokens. My book is a bit bigger.

Here is another small group of new tokens from old Shanghai. I like this one with mark and also E.T.R. series.

I couldn't find any information about my XF piece of MARS CAFE 10c E.T.R. Trade. I have just got it today and I love it.

Does someone know how many pieces are with E.T.R. ?

Token-63. There are only few of those. I have only seen 2 pieces except this one which is in my collection. If I am not wrong. The 2 chinese characters means "West Park". That is the name of the company of this 20 cents.
