Inherited Gold Pandas
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:52:05 AM »
I have recently inherited 3 x sets of Gold panda proof coins, each set consists of 5 coins 1 oz to 1/20th oz, all sets are boxed and have Certificates. 2 sets are 1991 and one set 1992.
These coins were all gifted to my uncle who spent several years working in China installing and maintaning mint equipment.
Finding it difficult to obtain realistic valuation here in the UK and scrap value only offer i recieve.
Looking for advice on what they are worth.

PS the 1991 sets are Nos 0009/3500 and 0010/3500. 1992 0014/3000

Hope i can find help here

1991 proof set: $5,000-6,000.

1992 proof set: about $10,000.

Thanks,
Have no knowledge re coins but enjoying researching these, all sets have a letter from the mint and after a rough translation at my local chinese takeaway they are gifts in appreciation of uncles contribution.

Carl,
Don't sell them for scrap! You might consider contacting an auction house like Spink (their HQ is in the London, isn't it?) to sell these. I can send you the email address for their Chinese coin specialist if you PM me or email at info(at)pandacollector.com.

Best wishes,

Yes, these are very important coins. Do not remove them from the packaging, and keep them safe, in their original condition, until you decide what you want to do with them. They are valuable now, but if you keep them, they'll be even more valuable.

Sounds like a wise decision to me! Congratulations on your decision not to sell them.
