The auspicious culture is a new series of MCC issued by China Mint, starting 2015. The series consists of four different themes; celebration of New Year (年年有余), celebration of new baby (瓜瓞绵绵), celebration of wedding (并蒂同心), and celebration of birthday of parent and grandparent (五福拱寿). This new series has been the most popular recently issued MCC inside China and hard to find outside China, since they are the ideal gift for the occasions mentioned above.

Each theme has two coins, ¼ oz. gold and 1 oz. silver in 2015 and 8 gm. gold and 30 gm silver in 2016. The mintage for gold is 30,000 and silver is 60,000 for both years.

I know this thread is a little dormant (does 5 weeks count as dormant?) but just wondering if anyone knows what's up with the heart-shaped gold 2016 Auspicious coins, the ones with the little gemstone eyes pictured above.

MCM got 3 sets listed on eBay when they first came out, they sold fast, and that's pretty much it.  There have been maybe a handful here and there, but for a set with a mintage of 30K it seems like so few made it to the USA.   Were these not meant for USA distribution or something?   Or is the market so slow that dealers passed, or are sitting on the ones they bought?

I really like them and can see myself with a set before long, but I guess I'm surprised by the lack of activity & availability on them.  I expected a miniature flood but it never happened.

There is very limited distribution of recently issued MCC to foreign distributors. For most commemorative sets, foreign distributors have an allocation about 6% of total mintage. For auspicious series, the foreign allocation is 1,000 gold and silver sets and additional 1,000 individual silver coins. This is about 3.3% of the total mintage. The commercial banks inside China have an allocation of 8,000 gold and silver sets and 16,000 individual silver coins. It was my understanding that banks sold out their allocation in two days.

The following website shows the distribution channels of this series. The last two rows show the total allocation for commercial bank and China Great Wall Investment Co. (Export branch of China Gold Coin Inc.).

The heart-shaped gold & silver set is the most expensive set in this series, about $620, while the other three sets are about $550/each.
