Title: Why coins and medals?
Post by: pandamonium on January 06, 2013, 11:26:55 AM
Started buying silver bullion in 2005.  Have been a collector for about 2 yrs so am fairly new.  We all know paper money printing is out of control world wide.  So the wealth will migrate to precious metals or bullion.  The price of bullion is currently manipulated and not fair market value, yet.  Why coins/medals?  Coins and medals are rare bullion.  When buying bullion it is a natural progression to buy the best bullion.  Those are coins/medals as the mintage is very low compared to other bullion.  The best,or highest demand, looks to be MCC or Modern Chinese Coins from 1979 to present.  The Chinese were not allowed to buy their own coins/medals or precious metals until 2003.  Their MCC were shipped to Japan, USA and Germany.  Today MCC is popular worldwide.  About 1/5th of the Chinese population can afford to buy MCC today.  1/5th is equal to the entire population of the USA so that is alot of potential new buyers.  My recommendation, if you live in the US, is to own   1) junk silver 1964 older coins and the dimes are best due to small size    2) own bullion rounds of precious metals, I like silver because it is cheap w/ a huge upside    3) Rare coins/medals.  MCC are best and this forum will educate you on which to buy.  MCC have very low mintage and fantastic designs changed yearly.  Buy them quickly as the inventory is low.  There is a  possiblity of a MCC bidding war as demand keeps growing, supply keeps shrinking and new varieties/mintage numbers are discovered.  Now is the time to buy MCC..........
