The subway stop I use for the Summer Palace is Beigongmen (line 4). In my experience this is much faster than taking a taxi. It just snowed in Beijing yesterday, but that shouldn't stop someone from Wisconsin! Have a great time Arif, Beijing is a fantastic city. Incidentally, while the rules are that a passport is required to get tickets for museums and major monuments, my driver's license/photo ID has always been accepted at cultural attractions everywhere in China. No need to carry the passport around with you except for changing money.
Oh, I think the China Numismatic Museum is still closed for another week due to its proximity to the governmental activities that are making news now.
