That is great buy. IMO, the "working music box" alone will worth more than $50. I will value wooden box together with  "working instrument"  more than $100 for each set. The cost of producing it will be about $100.

The I&D series consists of the following years with "instrument":

1992 - compass
1993 - abacus
1994 - tuned bell
1995 - potter bowl with panda print
1996 - music box

My understanding is that there was a planned release for 1997.  But was cancelled due to production cost?

This compass I found on ebay for $50.   Well known seller found a few he purchased many years ago.  More will be listed on ebay.

It works.   Manufacturer ;  Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.   Model Si Nan of Han Dynasty

Looks old, must be early year.   For I & D collectors, this could be a good addition...

The Inventions and Discoveries of China (IDOC) coins, were all Martin Weiss of Panda America's ideas. I am not sure if the mint conceived of the boxes, or if he thought of those, too. I suspect that he did. The compass is part of the first year set in 1992.

Best wishes,
