About 1 solid stem for every 2 broken stem.  Of the 30 dragon eyes I know, 11 are solid and 19 are broken stem.  They appear to be real varieties, such that one is either a broken stem or a solid stem.  There are no in-between sample.

It is not my find. I got the info from LBC, and photos from BoyBlueJay auction, who are duly acknowledged. From LBC it seems solid stem is less available (similar to SANDAC's finding).

The plated versions are also broken stem. Solid stem is only seen in solid silver (well - 90% silver).

I have also learned that 1984 versions also have same varieties - although I have not seen a broken stem solid silver 1984 dragon eye so far.

There actually is a solid stem variety in the gilt brass dragon eyes.  Quite rare, only 1 out of 17, and it is very different than the solid stem of the 1990.  The NGC number is 3628401-010.  See the attached photo.

Interesting. I was not aware of these varieties until now. Have they seen different premiums or sell at the same prices?

Boybluejay was the one getting gilt goldfish recognized by NGC, so I went back to his initial post and just realize the first gilt dragon eyes (3617898-002) is also a solid stem like the one I posted above.  So now it is 2 out of 18, still pretty scarce.
